Several reports from Memphis state that Liberty Linebackers coach Kyle Pope will be named the defensive line coach at Memphis under first year head coach Ryan Silverfield.
Pope was Liberty’s linebackers coach for the 2019 season under first year Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze and defensive coordinator Scott Symons. He joined the Flames after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Alabama where he worked with the defensive line.
Pope is just a few years removed from his collegiate playing days at Jacksonville State where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and wellness in 2015. Immediately following his time as a player, Pope moved into the coaching ranks where he bounced around from Holmes Community College, West Alabama, and Presbyterian before getting the opportunity of a lifetime with the Crimson Tide. He was with Alabama for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, as they advanced to the National Championship game both years, winning the National Championship in 2017.

On Wednesday, Eastern Michigan defensive graduate assistant Vontrell King-Williams tweeted that he was set to join Liberty’s staff working with the defensive tackles as a grad assistant. A 2016 graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in multidisciplinary studies, King-Williams most recently worked for UTSA football as a defensive line intern. A transfer from Butler Community College, King-Williams was a 2016 team captain for the Roadrunners.
