In addition to the previously reported game earlier this week against North Carolina Central, Liberty is also set to play host to Maryland Eastern-Shore, according to D1Docket. The game is scheduled for Dec. 2 at Liberty Arena in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the Flames are reportedly paying a $60,000 guarantee for the game.
This will mark the fourth time in six years that Liberty has faced UMES, having last played them last year on Nov. 27 in a 73-61 Liberty win. The Flames are 5-0 all-time against Maryland Eastern-Shore. The Hawks finished last season with an 11-16 overall record and 6-8 mark in the MEAC.
According to Jon Rothstein, Liberty will play host to NC Central this coming men’s basketball season as part of its non-conference schedule, no date for the game was immediately known.
The Eagles are coached by LeVelle Moton who has been at the helm for the past 13 seasons. He has helped guide them to four NCAA Tournament appearances and a showing in the NIT. Last year, NC Central finished 16-15 overall and 8-5 in the MEAC.
This game can be added to a growing number of non-conference games that have been reported for Liberty. The Flames will have three games as part of the Cancun Challenge, beginning with a home date at Liberty Arena against Southern Miss on Nov. 18 before heading to Mexico to take on Northwestern on Nov. 22 and either Bradley or Auburn on Nov. 23. Liberty will play Bryant in the 2022 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, Dec. 17 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Flames are also scheduled to play at Missouri in the third and final game of the three-game series with the SEC opponent. Date is still to be announced for that game. The ASUN has also previously announced the conference schedule this season for all member schools.
Liberty is coming off a season that saw the program win 20 or more games for a sixth consecutive year. The Flames finished the season at 22-11 overall and 12-4 in ASUN play, finishing first in the ASUN’s East Division. Liberty saw its three straight ASUN championships come to an end when the Flames lost to Bellarmine, 53-50, on March 5 in the ASUN Tournament semifinals.
