According to Matt Zenitz of On3Sports, Liberty is set to name Dino Waites as defensive backs coach. With this hire, new head coach Jamey Chadwell will have completed his on-field coaching staff.
Waites spent the 2022 season at VMI where he also coached the defensive backs. Prior to his time in Lexington, Waites was at Albany State where he was co-defensive coordinator and also coached the safeties. He helped coach a defensive unit that was ranked No. 1 in scoring defense at the Division II level in 2021.
Waites also coached at his alma mater, Carson-Newman, for eight years which included seven years coaching the secondary. He was named the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.
This past Friday, Chadwell announced the rest of his on-field coaching staff that includes five former Coastal Carolina assistants. The other positions have been filled by coaches that previously held positions at West Virginia and Missouri, while also retaining and Jack Curtis and promoting Robert Bala.
