According to Rocco Miller, Liberty will open the 2024-25 men’s basketball season against Valparaiso on Monday, November 4th. The game will be played at the new John Wooden Fieldhouse in Xenia, Ohio as part of an opening day festival of hoops.
Valpo was 7-25 a season ago and 3-17 in Missouri Valley play under first year head coach Roger Powell. The Beacons have suffered four consecutive losing seasons and have only posted one winning season in the past seven years.
This will be only the second ever meeting between Liberty and Valparaiso, with the two teams having previously played on December 30, 2003. Valpo won that game, 72-54, but the Flames would go on to win the Big South Tournament that season and advanced to the program’s second ever NCAA Tournament.
The 2024-25 CUSA conference schedule was released earlier this month, with the Flames scheduled to play 18 league games in the expanded 10-member conference as Kennesaw State joins the league this season.
Additional games Liberty is scheduled to play this coming season include hosting North Carolina A&T. The Flames are also slated to compete in the Field of 68 Tip-Off for the second of a three-year event. Last year, this event was held at FAU where the Flames played against FAU and Charleston, dropping both games. This coming season, Liberty will play both FAU and Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. It is scheduled to be played at Liberty Arena in 2025.
Liberty will also participate in the 2024 Paradise Jam where the Flames will open against Louisiana and then play either George Washington or Kansas State. A third game would be against one of McNeese State, Illinois State, UAB, or Longwood.
The Flames are also scheduled to play at Seattle and host UT Arlington as part of the continued CUSA-WAC scheduling alliance.
