Alright, everyone! Richie Longshots has been given the keys to the ASOR blogging empire much to the chagrin of our good pal Chad.
As you may have heard on Tuesday night, I received a one-week sussy for (allegedly) making a joke that some might consider Scandalous, Obtuse, Abusive, and Knavish. Either way, Chad gave no just cause to my suspension and after all of the lawyers got involved, we met in the middle by letting me blog. I’m being told this entire shebang has to go through three layers of editors before it hits the public. I’m hoping that numbers goes down over time *JOKE REDACTED BY CHAD* so giddy up and let’s start talking about some GAMBLIN’!
For those of you that don’t know, I have been making my picks for Liberty and other college football games throughout the season on the ASOR Podcast, and now we are turning those picks into blog form!
(play this while reading, replace the word freak with the word blog. clean version too.)
Last Week 1-4
Overall 16-20
I flirted with being .500 for about two days and then it all came crashing down last Saturday in dramatic fashion. I can find teams that are going to win but finding teams that are going to cover the spread is there I’m just missing the mark.
Shockingly, Liberty is the team I can’t figure out. Bet Wake -17? They almost win. Bet the Flames -24? They win by one. If you’re going to fade me for anything it should be my LU games (however I’m being told I have access to ASOR Gold or Club or Plus or whatever it is so now I’ll have some inside information. More on that later).
The only redeeming quality from last weekend I was at the House of Mouse in Florida living it up with Mickey and crew. After spending the same amount as I did on textbooks for a semester on some fancy dinner on Friday night I got ransacked by the sportsbooks. Then, I watched about seven plays from the Liberty game while hummin’ it up Epcot on Saturday afternoon.
Blog within a Blog: Don’t Take Your Kids to Epcot
Listen, I get it there are fun rides and everything. Frozen and Ratatouille? Hot in the streets with the children these days. But there is so much more to do in all the other parks. I’m trying to drink around the world before sundown and I’m dodging seven-year-old kids in strollers. Mix that in with the long lines and the fact we just beat Gardner Webb by 1, things weren’t great. Moral of the story? Don’t bring your kids to Epcot.
That was last week and this is this week. As Elsa said, “The Past is in the Past” and we’re onto week eight!
Week Eight
We’re kicking things off with a nice Thursday night game that’s taking place right now. To be honest I thought this game was Friday night and I just looked and I’m already losing. I will include updates throughout this blog so that should be a real hoot.
I like South Alabama -3 and there’s really no reason to give my rationale because by the time I finish this, the powers at be approve it, and you read it, I will have already probably lost. Right now they’re losing outright 7-0. Not a great start but I almost got pre-reps during my CFAW visit so it’s par for the course.
Wake Forest -20.5 against BC
I’ve said before I believe Wake is the best team we’re going to play all season. They have a big road win against FSU and obviously the overtime thriller against Clemson. BC has been a major disappointment this year with many seeing them as the underdog pick to win the ACC. They started off losing to Rutgers and outside of an upset against Louisville they’ve been flat. Wake is 5-1 this year ATS with BC being the complete opposite at 1-5. While Wake barely has an average defense BC has an inept offense. Love that this game is under 3 touchdowns and I can see this ending right at 21 in the worst-case scenario.
(USA -3 update: Still losing 7-0. Everyone knows they’re a second-half team)
UNM +12.5 against Fresno State
Both of these teams are terrible. With two wins apiece it’s hard to look at this game and think this is going to be any sort of thriller. It’s on Fox Sports 2 which means you most likely don’t even have to watch it! What really sticks out to me is that this over-under is currently 40. Any time you have a total that low, Vegas think points are going to be hard to come by for both teams, I’m going to look at taking the points. I also love the fact that UNM is 2-1-1 ATS at home this year while Fresno State is 0-3 on the road. Take the points, don’t watch the game, and hopefully cash a ticket.
TCU/KSU Over 54
Everyone is going to look at K-State’s last game against ISU and see that they scored 10 points. I’m not worried in the slightest. We saw Kansas do the same thing the week before they played TCU and what happened? They went on to score 31 points in a game that went over. Duece Vaughn is one of my favorite RBs in the country and with it looking like a windy night in Texas they’ll be running the ball. This game isn’t all about KSU, TCU has an electric offense and has scored more than 38 points in their last five games. I can see this game being around 35-28 which clears us by a touchdown.
(USA field goal to close out the half! Down 7-3)
BYU -7 against Liberty
Wahhhhhhh Richie Longshots how can you bet against Liberty! Very simple. They shouldn’t have covered against ODU, didn’t cover against GW, UMass, and USM and I won’t let myself get burnt again. Plus I’m going to a wedding during the game, so I’m already bitter I’ll be away from my TV for a second straight Liberty game.
Blog within a Blog 2: Worst Days to Get Married
- The first weekend of March Madness: I’m getting dragged to one next year on that Friday. I’m doing everything I can do not to go short of hiring a character actress to make some claims the week before.
- Any Saturday/Sunday September-December: Self-Explanatory. Football. There’s only a finite amount of games played every year. I will admit I got married on a Saturday in December but it was Army Navy. Least amount of games.
- Super Bowl Sunday: If it’s a day wedding fine, but I couldn’t imagine sitting at a wedding while the world watches the big game, all the commercials, checking boxes and props, and having the time of their life.
BYU’s three losses this year were to Oregon, Notre Dame (kinda stinks), and Arkansas. They’re playing a monster schedule and have gone up against some of the biggest and fastest players in the country. I want nothing more than to take Liberty. I hope I’m wrong but with so many unknowns at the QB positions who knows? Brewer as a game manager making short passes and getting the ball to Dae Dae would make me consider taking the points but I would wait and see. Might be a live betting situation if the offense looks like it’s going to be rolling.
(USA Friday morning update: South Alabama lost to Troy outright, 10-6)
So there we have it! Richie Longshots dipping his toe into the blogging waters. Remember, don’t be an idiot and bet more than you can handle and afford. My suspension from the podcast will remain in effect until the following week so we’ll see if I can avoid catching another sussy here before then.
