Former Liberty baseball player Ryan Cordell was called up to the Big Leagues on Wednesday by the New York Mets, marking the third straight season he has been on an active MLB roster at some point during the season.

Cordell, 28, signed a minor league deal with the Mets this winter after hitting .205/.290/.355 over 116 games with the White Sox the past two seasons.

During his time at Liberty, Cordell helped lead the Flames to a Big South title and NCAA Regional. He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers.
