According to D1Baseball, Liberty has seen several players enter the transfer portal from the baseball team.
Jaylen Guy, Victor Castillo, Dylan Edmands, Nick Willard, Jake Lazzaro, Andrew Jenner, Garrett Gainey, Drew Baughman, and Emmanuel Johnson have all entered the portal according to the D1Baseball listing.
After receiving a medical redshirt for the 2022 season, Guy has one year of eligibility remaining. He started all 47 games he played in this past spring for the Flames. Guy ranked 3rd on the team with a .309 batting average to go along with 12 doubles and 2 home runs. He also led the team with 22 stolen bases. Guy played in 183 games during his time with Liberty.
Castillo played in 37 games in 2023 for the Flames, his only season at Liberty after transferring in from College of Central Florida. He primarily played designated hitter and finished the year with a .236 batting average.
A freshman, Edmands played in 6 games for Liberty this past spring. He was unable to record a hit in his 8 at bats.
Willard made 33 appearances on the mound for Liberty over the past three seasons, including 17 in 2023. He finished this past year with a 4.08 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched.
Lazzaro began his career at St. John’s where he played for two seasons. While at Liberty the past two years, he played in 71 games, including 43 starts at shortstop this past season. This year, Lazzaro had a .285 batting average with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 3 home runs.
After beginning his collegiate career at Winthrop, Jenner transferred to to Liberty for the 2023 campaign. He played in 11 games this spring, making 6 starts and finished the season with one hit in 19 at bats.
Like Jenner, Gainey also transferred to Liberty from Winthrop prior to the 2023 season. He pitched in 13 games this season, making 9 starts with a 7.28 ERA.
Baughman did not appear in any games for the Flames in 2023. He played in 53 games for Liberty from 2019-2022.
Johnson did not see any action in 2023. He appeared in two games for the Flames out of the bullpen in 2022.
