Special Teams
KO/PK 49 John Lunsford (So., 6-10, 180)
P 39 Grant Bowden (Sr., 6-3, 190)
LS 50 Richard Wright (R-Sr., 6-1, 260)
91 Dylan Bowman (R-So., 6-3, 245)
H 18 Javan Shashaty (R-Fr., 6-1, 165)
The Flames are in a much better position right now than they were a year ago as Lunsford, Bowden, and Wright are all coming off all-conference performances in 2012. Wright was 1st team all-Big South and had a very solid Spring. Bowden was 2nd team all-Big South a season ago after averaging 39.4 yards per punt. This Spring Grant was consistently booming balls 50+ yards. Lunsford is coming off one of the more impressive freshman campaigns by a kicker in Liberty history. He made 8/12 field goals including a 50 yarder, and 25 of his 40 kickoffs were downed for a touchback.
KR 2 D.J. Abnar (So., 5-10, 185)
KR 2 D.J. Abnar (So., 5-10, 185)
3 Kevin Fogg (R-Sr., 5-10, 190)
19 Walt Aikens (Sr., 6-1, 200)
15 Greg Pratt (Sr., 5-8, 160)
Fogg was an all-American in 2011 after returning 3 kickoffs for touchdown, and when he went down to injury early in 2012 Abnar stepped right in. D.J. averaged 27.5 yards per kick return including a long of 83. Having both Fogg and Abnar back deep should prove deadly for opposing teams. Or they could just kick it out of bounds.
PR 3 Kevin Fogg (R-Sr., 5-10, 190)
PR 3 Kevin Fogg (R-Sr., 5-10, 190)
19 Walt Aikens (Sr., 6-1, 200)
With 1 touchdown in just 9 returns last season, Fogg proved he is just as deadly fielding punts as he is fielding kickoffs. Wide receiver Gabe Henderson was also in the mix at punt returner during Spring ball and looked impressive.
