Coach Gill was in attendance of the NCAA National Championship game late Monday night in Arlington, but that didn’t deter him from being back in command Tuesday at practice. With the spring game coming up on Saturday, FlamesNation was also in attendance to gather some more notes. Here’s some of what we saw:
Offense
- Darrin Peterson participated in practice and looked healthy.
- Thomas Kennedy, who is filling in for an injured Nicky Fualaau at fullback, looked really good, and displayed some receiving ability.
- Josh Woodrum had a good practice, as is the usual. Also, it looks to me like Masha has emerged as the backup, as he’s playing with a lot of poise this spring.
- Jaquan Glover has been solid with the first team after a limited 2013 campaign. He has been playing in place of an injured Dante Shells.
- I also like what I’m seeing from Ryan McCarter who was injured during spring practice last year. McCarter had a nice block that lead to a huge play yesterday.
- The first team O-line has been Jonathan Burgess, Aharown Campbell, Max Sommer, Mitch Hanson, and Greg Ray.
Defense
- Wesley Scott practiced and looked healthy.
- Tyrin Holloway continues to impress me. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t play a big role next year, probably in the nickel.
- Dominique Davis was using his size to run O-linemen over yesterday. He and Uzowihe should be a tough tandem to contain next year.
- At tackle was JaRon Greene and Nolan Spicer. They will have to improve a lot to make the sort of impact Fewell, Bah, and Freeman were able to make.
- Nick Sigmon was very impressive as usual. He has such a good blend of aggressiveness and judgment.
- Jimmy O’Grady made an interception yesterday. He will be able to step right in at linebacker with few hiccups this year.
Keep following as we get ready to wrap up spring practice with the spring game next Saturday.
