Casey Roberts returns for his 2nd and final season in a Liberty uniform. He is coming off a season with averages of 5.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 16.6 minutes per game after seeing playing time in all 36 Liberty games. Roberts came to Liberty as a walk-on from Allegany College of Maryland, but played well enough to earn himself a scholarship by the end of the year.
Coming into the program as a 3-point specialist, Roberts did not disappoint as he was the team’s 3rd leading 3-point shooter (behind Davon Marshall and JC Sanders). Roberts was 39/102 on 3-pointers last season which is good enough for 38%. Compared to other 3-point specialists on the team, Roberts shot a relatively low percentage of his shots from behind the arc (58%). He also shot a very solid 37% on his 2-point jump shots, which was the best on the team by a guard. So, he proved he had more to his offensive game than being solely a spot up 3-point shooter. In fact, Roberts’ 5.4 points per game last season was good enough to be the team’s 5th leading scorer.
With Tavares Speaks’ graduation, Donley should see an increased role his senior season. He could even play himself into a starting spot alongside Sanders and Marshall in the backcourt.
