“My choice is to be surrounded by people with similar backgrounds and cultural experiences,” Land said in his statement as he transfers to a HBCU near his hometown. “And to be within a unique community with support and understanding among faculty and my fellow classmates.”
Land, who announced a few weeks ago alongside Liberty teammate Kei’Trel Clark he would be transferring, cited “racial insensitivity displayed by leadership at Liberty University” in his decision to transfer from Liberty. “I pray that I am able to be provided with a opportunity at a new school that respects my culture and provides a comfortable environment,” his statement continued a few weeks ago.
Land is the highest rated recruit in Liberty school history, joining the program as a 4-star rated prospect. He played in 11 games as a true freshman last season, including starter at nickel, and finished with 23 tackles. He was projected as a starter for 2020.
