VOLLEYBALL
The Liberty Invitational was exactly what the volleyball team needed to get their season rolling after an 0-3 start. The Flames picked up 2 wins at home against USC Upstate and Hampton, but dropped their final game to ETSU.
They will spend the weekend down in North Carolina for the Davidson Wildcat Classic.
September 9th, vs. USC Upstate @ 4:30pm
September 10th, vs. Furman @ 10:00am
September 10th, vs Davidson @ 6:00pm
WOMENS SOCCER
After starting 0-3, the Lady Flames bounced back, going 3-0 this past week. Those 3 wins came against App State, JMU, and UNC Greensboro. The Flames overcame an 2-0 deficient in the second half to defeat App State 2-3. Liberty was 0-6 all time against JMU, but broke that losing steak against the Dukes last Sunday. And freshman midfielder Anna Roach scored the lone goal that would be enough to lift the Flames over the UNCG Spartans.
They have two home games this week:
September 11th vs. George Washington @ 4:00pm
September 16th vs. Florida Gulf Coast @ 4:00pm
CONFERENCE BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

CHARLESTON CONTROVERSY
Following Charleston Southern’s season opener, reports dropped that their football team self-reported NCAA recruting violations. In response to the to these violations, CSU suspended head football coach Jamey Chadwell along with an assistant coach for one game. The violation was classified as a “Secondary/Level III NCAA recruiting violation,” meaning there was social media contact with a potential commit when there shouldn’t have been.
And if that weren’t enough, it appears that 30 players on the team have been fined and suspended for the upcoming FSU game due to the ‘misuse’ of money given to the players by the school. Allegedly, members of the team used leftover book money to purchase other items in their bookstore such as “pencils, paper, notebooks, and electronics.” According to the NCAA, this is a rule violation and has opened an investigation. This comes after numerous players took to social media voicing their opinions and offering their side of the story.
We are keeping a close eye on this story and will update the site as it develops.
FOOTBALL
Liberty dropped their season opener to FBS opponent Virginia Tech 13-36. The Flames kept it close up to the end of the 2nd quarter when the Hokies pulled away. Offensively, Liberty struggled, putting together just 160 yards and giving the ball up 4 times. The defensive put on a good performance against the Power 5 offense, forcing 4 turnovers.
The Flames home opener is Saturday, September 10th, against Jacksonville University.
Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
Both LG Michael Henderman and CB Jeremy Peters are questionable to play.
