UConn has canceled its 2020 football season, according to the Hartford Courant, and with their decision Liberty has officially lost its 2nd game on its 2020 football schedule. UConn is the first FBS team to officially cancel its 2020 season.
Like the Flames, UConn is also an FBS Independent and 2020 was set to be its first since leaving the American Athletic Conference.
Liberty was set to travel to face the Huskies on Oct. 31 in what would have been the first matchup between the two programs since 2005. The Flames have also lost its 2020 home opener scheduled for Sept. 12 against North Carolina A&T.
The Flames’ three games against ACC teams (Virginia Tech, Syracuse, NC State) are also up in the air in light of the conference electing to move to a 10 game conference schedule plus one non-conference game.
Liberty officials have stated the Flames are attempting to play a full 12 game schedule and are still in discussions with all three ACC teams.
