Over the past several years, Liberty has produced a number of professional basketball players, and several of them continue to play, whether in the States or overseas. Here’s an update on where several former Flames are playing.
Lovell Cabbil
Cabbil is currently competing in the Polish OBL where he is playing for MKS Dabrowa Gornicza. He has started 4 of 22 games this season while averaging 22.6 minutes, 14.1 points, 3.7 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. Cabbil is shooting 44.2% from the field and 38.8% from three-point range.
Ray Chen
Chen continues to play for the Guangzhou Loong Lions in the Chinese CBA, his 7th season with the franchise. He has started 36 of 39 games played. He’s playing 32.3 minutes per game while averaging 12.6 points, 7 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game. Chen, who transferred to Liberty from Belmont Abbey for his final season of eligibility in college, is shooting 41.2% from the field and 33.5% from three this season.
Tomasz Gielo
After finishing his collegiate career at Ole Miss as a grad transfer, Gielo has spent the past eight seasons playing professionally. His first five years were all in Spain. This season, Gielo is playing for Casademont Zaragoza in the Spanish ACB league. He has played in 24 games, while starting three, and is averaging 15.2 minutes, 3.8 points, and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Caleb Homesley
Homesley currently plays Tofas SC in the Turkish League where he has started 16 of 28 games he’s played in. Homesley is playing 28.3 minutes per game while averaging 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He is shooting 41.8% from the field and 37.8% from three.
Scottie James
James is playing for Tianjin Ronggang in the Chinese professional basketball league for the second straight year. In 39 games this season, 36 of which he has started, James is averaging 33.0 minutes, 27.4 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He is shooting 50.2% from the field and 36.9% from three-point range. James has 14 30-point games this season, including games where he has scored 63, 51, and 41.
Darius McGhee
McGhee is playing in the NBA G League for the Indiana Mad Ants. In 19 games played, he is averaging 14.4 minutes, 7.7 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5% from the field and 34.1% from three.
Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz
Playing in a Greek professional league, Pacheco-Ortiz is playing for Mykonos. He has started 10 of 15 games he has played where Liberty’s former point guard is averaging 23.9 minutes, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 38.2% from the field and 33.8% from three.
Drew Smith
In his 9th season playing professionally, Drew Smith has played for two teams this season. He is currently playing for Hapoel Eilat in the Israeli BSL. He has started 9 of 10 games played for them, averaging 26.0 minutes, 7.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the field.
