The Big South announced their end of year football honorees today. Chima Uzowihe was named the Defensive Player of the Year. The Flames had 4 first team honorees in Darrin Peterson, Jonathan Burgess, Max Sommer, and Uzowihe. Another 7 Flames were selected to the 2nd team in Josh Woodrum, Zac Parker, Nick Newman, Chris Turner, John Lunsford, Trey Turner, and Hunter Winstead.
Josh Woodrum finished 2nd in voting to De’Angelo Henderson for the Big South Offensive Player of the Year, receiving 4 of 21 first-place votes.
Uzowihe is the first Liberty player to be voted the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. The STATS National FCS Defensive Player of the Year award finalist led the Big South in tackles-for-loss with a career-high 17 and 8 sacks. He is the 2nd player to lead the Big South in TFL in back-to-back years, and finishes his career as the Big South’s all-time sacks leader with 25.
