Former Liberty cornerback Walt Aikens heard his name called Saturday afternoon as the Miami Dolphins selected him with the 125th overall pick in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Aikens is the highest drafted Flame since Eric Green was selected in the 1st round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1990. He is also the 3rd Flame ever taken in the first 4 rounds of the draft joining Green and Kelvin Edwards who was selected in the 4th round in 1986 by the New Orleans Saints.
Walt becomes the 7th player drafted out of Liberty University joining Fred Banks (8th round by Cleveland Browns, 1985), Kelvin Edwards (4th round by New Orleans Saints, 1986), Richard Shelton (11th round by Denver Broncos, 1989), Eric Green (1st round by Pittsburgh Steelers, 1990), Donald Smith (10th round by Minnesota Vikings, 1990), and Rashad Jennings (7th round by Jacksonville Jaguars, 2009).
Congratulations to Walt Aikens and best wishes in Miami and the NFL!
