In my lifetime as a Liberty fan, I’ve had countless memorable experiences.
As a student, the 2004 Big South Conference Championship game in the Vines Center against High Point stands out. The trips in 2014 to watch the football team beat #1 Coastal Carolina to advance to the program’s first and only FCS playoffs, followed by a win at JMU in the first round of the playoffs the following week were amazing.
I went to Waco and saw the Flames defeat Baylor. I went to Lipscomb for both wins last year.
There’s others that come to mind, but they all fail in comparison to the trip to Orlando for the Cure Bowl last week.
That was the single, most memorable trip as a fan I have ever had. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
Being in 70-degree weather for a mini-vacation in December, meeting up with old friends and making new ones, connecting with fellow Liberty alumni and students for several days all around a football game. It was an amazing trip and one I will always remember.
All that being said, let’s do it again next year!
“I hope our fans can get used to this,” Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze said of the trip to Florida. “We need to plan around the bowl season. Some of the trips you may have planned, you need to incorporate that into your yearly schedule.”
I know it’s difficult to do so, but you have a year to start planning now. If Liberty makes a bowl next year, which I fully expect to happen, the Flames will likely play during the last two weeks of December. Tell your friends and family now. Get an extra job to save up. You won’t regret it.
