In just a few short weeks, Liberty’s football team will assemble on the Mountain to begin preseason training camp as the 2022 football schedule continues to inch closer. The Flames are scheduled to open the season on Sept. 3 at Southern Miss in the fourth season under head coach Hugh Freeze.
This season has a lot of question marks around it with several key pieces from last year’s roster having exhausted their eligibility and moved on. Liberty is also facing its most anticipated schedule in school history that includes home dates against Virginia Tech and BYU and intriguing road games against the likes of Arkansas and Wake Forest.
Just a few days ago, we posted a simple question on our social media channels, asking for your hot take on the 2022 Liberty football season. Here’s a recap of most of your responses:
THE ETERNAL OPTIMISTS
“We go undefeated and play in the collegiate football playoffs.”
“Liberty will be in a New Years six bowl game.”
“Undefeated.”
“Top 25”
“Liberty goes undefeated and ranked in the top 25.”
“An undefeated season is possible. The P5 schools on the schedule are beatable.”
“Flames Football shocks Power 5 with DOMINANT defensive line play.”
“We join the ACC at the end of the season.”
VT & BYU PREDICTIONS
“We beat both VT and BYU and this year’s team ends up with more wins than last year’s team, even with losing Malik.”
“Brewer is 1st team All-Independent. Flames go 9-3 with home wins over VT & BYU.”
“9-4 record, beating VA Tech and BYU at home. make bowl and postseason.”
“LU beat BYU & VT at home.”
“Win vs BYU and VA Tech.”
QB TAKES
“Brewer starts, Salter takes over by game #3 and remains QB1, JB hits the transfer portal by game #6.”
“The QB at the start of the season will not be the starter at the end of the season.”
Salter will be the starting QB over Bennett and Brewer.”
“8-4. Salter starts the second game. He becomes one of the best QB’s to wear an LU jersey.”
“We finish 10-2 or 9-3 and brewer is QB1 first half of the season.”
“We will have a QB change at least once before mid season. Brewer will start, Salter will take over.”
“brewer is gonna be the starter than lose his position to salter after the first few games.”
“We will be battling for a bowl pick with our last game. Brewer will have a mediocre stat line. Enough to stay starter for the whole season.”
LOVE FOR DAE DAE
“Dae dae hunter will be the number 1 running back, and we will have a top 10 defense.”
“Dae Dae Hunter will be the offensive player of the year for the Flames.”
SOUR MILK
“Unfortunately LU drops the first 3 games of the season.”
“3 win season.”
“6-6 Freeze leaves.”
OTHER
“9 win season.”
“Liberty beats Wake Forest on the road.”
“LU going to do a lot better vs Arkansas than we think.”
“We might upset one of the four power five teams we play. I think of all of them we could beat BYU.”
“ODU going to give LU a hard fought game.”
“We lose our first game and we should not lose that one. Still we win 8.”
“I have a bad feeling about Wake and ODU…for whatever reason.”
We’ll upset 1 of the P5s, but UAB gets revenge for last season home opener in new stadium. Don’t feel good about S. Miss and ODU either. They will give us a tough time. Without Malik, seems like we’re a 6-7 win team, or 8 at best.
Either way,
