Wednesday Begins the Men’s Basketball Signing Period

The Division I men’s basketball early signing period begins on Wednesday, November 11th and lasts for one week. Ritchie McKay and the Liberty Flames have two verbal commitments in the class of 2021 who are both expected to sign this week. Brody Peebles and Joseph Venzant are the Flames’ early pledges.

Peebles committed to Liberty in December 2019. The 6’3″, 170 pound guard from Harselle High School in Harselle, Alabama chose the Flames over offers from UAB, North Alabama, Samford, Belmont, UNC Wilmington, Wofford, and Lipscomb. He was the only junior named to the 2020 Alabama Sports Writers Association First-Team All-State for Class 6A as he helped lead his team to the Elite Eight of the Alabama state tournament. Peebles averaged 29 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while shooting 56% from the field and 44% from three point range. Peebles is a 3-star rated prospect according to 247Sports.

Venzant committed to Liberty the same week in December that Peebles committed. He’s a 6’3″, 185 pound combo guard from Midland Christian High School in Midland, Texas where he also had offers from UTSA, UTEP, Wake Forest, Tulsa, and Cal State Fullerton. As a junior last season, he averaged 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while leading his team to the state tournament final four. Venzant is a 3-star rated prospect according to 247Sports.
