Liberty has added a commitment from West Liberty transfer JJ Harper. Harper is a 6’5″, 200 pound guard coming from the Division II program. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Harper spent this past season at West Liberty, where he played in 23 games and started 21. He averaged 27.3 minutes, 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 46.5% from the field, 34.7% from three, and 83.1% from the free throw line. Harper helped lead West Liberty to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and a 30-5 record this past season.

Prior to his time at West Liberty, Harper was a graduate transfer from Division II Concord University where he was a two-time all-conference selection, while averaging 13.9 points and 5.0 rebounds over two seasons. He scored in double figures in 45 of his 58 games with a career-high of 30 points. Prior to Concord, Harper spent one year at Redlands CC in El Reno, Oklahoma where he averaged 13.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest. He shot 48.8 percent from the floor and just under 40 percent (39.8) from three-point range.

Harper is the second commitment for Coach McKay and the Flames in this year’s transfer portal, joining Virginia Tech transfer RJ Jones. Liberty has as many as two roster spots still open after Harper’s commitment. He will step into a wing position that currently is left vacated after the loss of Taelon Peter and Jayvon Maughmer.
