Liberty dropped a close one to 7-0 Charleston Southern, 79-75. What we learned:
- Liberty set a season high for points scored against DI competition this season with 75. This is the 2nd straight outing the Flames have done so.
- That being said, Liberty needs to keep the game in the 50s-60s to have a real shot at winning most conference games.
- Saah Nimley and Davon Marshall put on a show. They continually answered each other’s 3 pointers, it was fun to watch. Nimley finished 7/23 from the field, 6/12 from 3, 23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists. Marshall finished 7/15 from the field, 7/14 from 3, 23 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists.
- Marshall had a fairly clean look at the basket from 3 with just a few seconds remaining, but he airballed. You couldn’t have asked for a much better look with the Flames trailing by 3.
- The only other Liberty player to finish in double figures was Tavares Speaks with 15. Speaks scored Liberty’s first 7 points of the game.
- Both CSU and Liberty combined to shoot 21/52 from 3 for 40%; impressive shooting from the top 2 3 point shooting teams in the league.
- CSU beat the Flames in a number of notable stat categories including points off turnovers, points in paint, and fast break points.
Liberty will look to rebound on Tuesday night as they face the #1 team from the North Division Campbell.
