Liberty loses to Gardner-Webb 71-68 to drop to 4-7 in conference play. Here is what we learned against the Runnin’ Bulldogs:
- This could be just 1 bullet: the Flames can’t win on the road as they are now 1-12 away from the Vines Center this season. But that would be just too simple and not fair, so…
- JC Sanders had a career high 27 points on 8/16 shooting from the field. He was continually attacking the basket and made all 10 of his FTs on the night. JCS was just 1/5 from 3. His game has definitely adapted from his first 2 years when he was primarily a 3 point shooter.
- Marshall and Gielo added 11 a piece as well.
- JCS also led the Flames in rebounding with 7.
- 2 of Liberty’s top 3 scorers on the season, Marshall and Speaks, were 5/20 combined from the field.
- Joel VanderPol provided solid production off the bench with 4 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes.
- Gardner-Webb’s Tashan Newsome was too much for the Flames. He finished with 26 points and was 10/13 from the free throw line.
- Liberty was just 4/17 from 3 on the game.
- The Flames continue their hot shooting from the charity stripe as they were 18/20 from the line, 90%.
Liberty returns to action on Wednesday night in Buies Creek, NC against Campbell.
