The Flames continue their second half woes, blowing a halftime lead and dropping to 1-9 on the season against Howard.  The 60-53 loss leaves Liberty without a Division 1 victory on the season so far.  What we learned yesterday:

  • Liberty continues to struggle to put 2 solid halves together of a game.  They were held without a field goal for the first 8:41 of the 2nd half in this one.  Anytime a team doesn’t hit a bucket for almost a quarter of the game, they are in trouble.
  • The inside game is still a big issue.  The Flames were outscored 32-12 in the paint.
  • The Flames can defend the 3-ball.  Howard went 1-8 from outside the arc.
  • Without Antwan Burrus, the only player who can consistently score points may be PG Davon Marshall.  He went 5-10 last night from the field, with 13 points.  If this team is going to win as it is currently assembled, it may be time for Davon to get the green light.  Let’s see if he can put this team on his back.

Liberty will try to bounce back on Tuesday, when they face Iona on the road.  Iona, a #14 seed from the NCAA tournament in 2011-12, is 4-4 on the season.
