Liberty fell to the Blue Hose of Presbyterian Saturday night, 68-60. Here is what we learned:
- Presbyterian was 0-4 in Big South play and 0-15 against Division I competition this season coming into this contest.
- Liberty simply could not get any offense established as the Flames finished the game shooting 41%. The Flames shot just 36% in the 1st half.
- Liberty had 3 players pace the team in scoring with Marshall (14), Roberts (13), and Speaks (11) all scoring in double figures.
- The Flames were just 11/18 from the free throw line for 61%. The Blue Hose were 18/23 for 78%.
- Khalid Mutakabbir was simply too much as he scored 26 points on 8/14 shooting and 5/8 from 3. Mutakabbir had 21 of the Blue Hose’s 31 points at halftime.
- With this loss it becomes clear that Liberty will be fighting all season to stay out of the cellar. Look at the schedule, there just aren’t that many wins left on there if the Flames can’t beat Presbyterian.
Liberty returns to action Tuesday night against Longwood who is the last remaining winless team in the conference at 0-5.
What we learned is how low we can drop with this program.
Isn’t that the truth. Nothing is a sure win these days.
