Liberty picks up their 3rd win on the season to improve to 3-10 following their 104-67 win over NAIA Union College. Here is what we learned against Union:
- Yes, it was only against NAIA competition, but the 2nd half of the game was arguably the most complete 20 minutes of game action the Flames have played all season. Liberty outscored Union 57-35 in the 2nd half.
- Coming off the news that Liberty would be without the services of post presence Antwan Burrus for the rest of the season, the other post players had career nights against Union: Joel VanderPol had 12 points and 11 boards in 15 minutes, JR Coronado had 14 points and 16 boards, and Andrew Smith had 14 points and 4 boards. These were career highs for JVP in rebounds, Coronado in points and rebounds, and Smith in points.
- Liberty had 6 players in double figures: Coronado (14), Marshall (14), Smith(14), Speaks(14), VanderPol(12), and Donley(10).
- Davon Marshall added 9 assists to his 14 points.
The Flames have 1 more warm-up prior to conference play, and 1 last chance at a Division I win before the calendar turns to 2013 when they face Western Carolina in Cullowhee, NC. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm.
