Liberty loses its home finale to VMI 83-69. What we learned against the Keydets:
- Stan Okoye proved why he should win Big South Player of the Year. The leading scorer and rebounder in the league put on a show finishing with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
- The pace was too much for Liberty. The Flames cannot score as many points as the Keydets did Tuesday night. Liberty had to keep the game in the 70s to have a legitimate shot. Since VMI had such a large lead coming down the stretch, they really slowed it down. The Keydets were easily on a pace for 95-100 points most of the night.
- On senior night Tavares Speaks concluded his Vines Center career with 19 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
- With the loss, Liberty is eliminated from contention for the #2 seed and the last bye in the Big South’s North Division. The Flames will likely end up the #5 seed and will face the #4 seed from the South Division.
- VMI’s Rodney Glasgow returned to the lineup for the first time in 4 games. Glasgow finished with 18 points and 6 assists.
- VMI puts a halt to its 6 game losing skid. The Keydets had lost 9 out of their past 11 games.
- Liberty was led by John Caleb Sanders’ 20 points.
- The Flames had just 6 points off the bench – Joel Vander Pol who chipped in 5 points and Chad Donley added 1.
- Liberty was just 4/19 from 3. VMI was 13/34.
The Flames conclude their regular season with a trip to Radford on Saturday.
