Since the end of the 2022 football season, Liberty has seen 26 players enter the transfer portal. They enter the portal for a variety of reasons whether it’s looking for NIL money, more playing time, or a better opportunity. Here’s where Liberty’s players have ended up so far.

CB Daijahn Anthony – Ole Miss

Anthony has been a starter at corner for the Flames for much of the past two seasons. In 2022, he had 27 tackles and 2 interceptions. Now, he heads to the SEC.

DE Stephen Sings V – Auburn

Sings had entered the portal in December before withdrawing his name and returning to Liberty for the spring. Sings played in 11 games last season as a second string defensive end. He recorded 13 tackles with 3.5 sacks and 3 pass break ups, and was expected to be a starting defensive end for the Flames in 2023. He now reunites with former Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze as well as position coach Jeremy Garrett.

OL Reggie Young – Colorado

Young was a JUCO transfer that came to Liberty a year ago and was a depth piece for the 2022 season. He worked with the first team at left tackle most of the spring under head coach Jamey Chadwell. He has landed at Colorado with Coach Prime.

LB Mike Smith, Jr. – Baylor

Smith had 85 tackles and 10 tackles for a loss for the Flames as a starting linebacker in 2022 after joining the program from the JUCO ranks. He transferred to Baylor prior to the spring semester.

DT Dre Butler – Michigan State

The former Auburn transfer played in 12 games on the defensive line for the Flames this season. He recorded 22 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks. He landed in the Big Ten.

LB Ahmad Walker – SMU

Walker was Liberty’s third leading tackler this season, recording 63 tackles in 12 games played. He also had 11 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and an interception. He followed his former position coach and defensive coordinator Scott Symons.

CB Chris Megginson – SMU

Megginson has been a starter at corner for the Flames the past couple of seasons. The Heritage High School product is a grad transfer and also reunites with former Liberty DC Scott Symons and CB Coach Rickey Hunley.

RB/WR Shedro Louis – Tulane

Over his time with the program, Louis accumulated 1,399 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground while also adding 36 receptions for 364 yards and two touchdowns. He was also a strong member of the special teams unit, returning two kicks for a touchdown. Louis has spent most of his career at running back before switching to wide receiver during the spring under new head coach Jamey Chadwell.

TE Teigan Martin – South Florida

Martin redshirted at Liberty during his first season on campus in 2022. He remains in the FBS at USF.

LB Kaci Seegars – Ohio

Seegars was originally committed to Texas A&M before switching just ahead of signing day in December 2020. He began his career as a defensive end before switching to linebacker. Seegars redshirted his first season in the program and missed last year due to injury. Now, he will play in the MAC.

DL Khristian Zachary – Southern

One of the highest rated recruits in program history, Zachary has been a key reserve of Liberty’s defensive line over the past two seasons. He had 10 tackles and 0.5 sack in 2022. He originally committed to Western Kentucky but has now pledged to FCS member Southern.

DL Rashad Whitehead – Gardner-Webb

A reserve defensive lineman, Whitehead was not practicing with the team during the spring. He lands at former Big South rival Gardner-Webb.

OL Will Buchanan – UT Chattanooga

Buchanan played in six games on the offensive line for the Flames in 2022. He has transferred to UT Chattanooga, an FCS program.

QB Sean Brown – Towson

Brown is a redshirt-sophomore who did not play any games this season. He saw playing time in one game during his Liberty career, against Western Carolina during the 2020 season. He has transferred to Towson.

S Tim Coutras – Tennessee Tech

Coutras was Mr. Football in the state of Tennessee and fought through injuries during the end of his high school career and during his time at Liberty. This spring, Coutras worked with the first and second team at safety for the majority of practice time that was open to the media. He lands at Tennessee Tech.

DE Rashaud Pernell – North Carolina A&T

Pernell, a previous Virginia Tech signee, redshirted during his first year with the Flames during the 2022 season. He was working primarily with the second team defense at defensive end during much of this spring. Now, he has committed to North Carolina A&T.

WR Jaivian Lofton – Utah Tech

Lofton played in 10 games this past season, recording 10 catches for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. He has transferred to FCS member Utah Tech.

LB Carl Poole Jr – Virginia State

A walk-on, Poole played in six games for the Flames this season, not recording any stats.  He has transferred to Division II Virginia State.

OL John Kourtis – University of Saskatchewan

Kourtis has been a valuable member of Liberty’s offensive line over his career, primarily serving as a backup center. He will spend his final year of eligibility in his native Canada at the University of Saskatchewan, a non-NCAA member.

RB Dae Dae Hunter – undecided

Dae Dae Hunter has entered the transfer portal for a second time in just a few months. He entered the portal in December before electing to return to the team for the spring as he continued to rehab from an injury suffered last season. Hunter rushed for 850 yards and 8 touchdowns in 9 games before being injured in the Arkansas game. The Flames were 8-1 with him in the lineup, his first season at Liberty after transferring from Hawaii.

S Rocket Rahimi – undecided

Rahimi was a starter for the Flames in 2022, recording 56 tackles. He also led the team with 5 interceptions. He had committed to SMU but did not enroll there.

CB Deon Biggins – undecided

Biggins has been a reserve defensive back at Liberty, primarily playing on special teams.

OL Mason Bundy – undecided

A reserve offensive lineman, Bundy was not practicing with the team during the spring.

K Jason Stricker – undecided

Kicker Jason Stricker handled the Flames’ kickoff duties during 2022.

LG Jacob Bodden – undecided

Bodden played in 5 games and started 3 this season before being shut down due to a shoulder injury. He has played in 33 career games and started 19 for the Flames.

DL Marquise Brunson – undecided

Brunson played in 2 games for Liberty this season, not recording any stats.
