Since the end of the 2023 football season, Liberty has seen 18 players enter the transfer portal. They enter the portal for a variety of reasons whether it’s looking for more NIL money, more playing time, or a better opportunity. Here’s where Liberty’s players have ended up so far.

WR CJ Daniels – LSU

Daniels led the Flames in 2023 with 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, having a breakout season. He entered the portal following the Fiesta Bowl and ended up transferring to LSU.

DB Preston Hodge – Colorado

Hodge began his Liberty career at safety before switching to corner. In 2023, one of the Flames’ top defensive players, Hodge recorded 48 tackles, 3 TFLs, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble. He has transferred to Colorado where he will play for Coach Prime.

CB Kobe Singleton – Oregon State

Singleton started at corner for Liberty in 2023. He finished the year with 41 tackles, 12 PBUs and 4 interceptions. Following the season he entered the portal and has transferred to Oregon State.

DT Kendy Charles – Duke

Charles was plagued by injuries during the 2023 season. He played in 7 games, finishing the year with 24 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, and 3 sacks. Following the season, he entered the portal and transferred to Duke.

OL Chase Mitchell – Vanderbilt

Mitchell started at left tackle for the Flames in 2023. He spent this past spring working with the first unit at left guard. He has committed to Vanderbilt where former Liberty offensive line coach Chris Klenakis is now OL coach.

S Jaylon Jimmerson – Sam Houston

Playing in all 13 games last season, Jimmerson recorded 18 tackles, 2 TFLs and 1 interception from the safety position for the Flames. He will now play for an opposing CUSA team as he has transferred to Sam Houston.

DE Bryan Whitehead II – Arkansas State

Transferring to Liberty from a JUCO prior to the 2023 season, Whitehead played all 13 games for the Flames this season playing as a reserve defensive end. He registered 14 tackles, 3 TFLs and 0.5 sacks. He has now transferred to play in the Sun Belt at Arkansas State.

QB Reese Mooney – Louisiana Monroe

The highly touted recruit out of high school committed to the Flames under previous head coach Hugh Freeze and stayed true to his commitment and signed even after the coaching change. He did not play during the 2023 season, utilizing his redshirt year. After entering the portal, Mooney committed to North Texas. Following the spring at UNT, he entered the portal again and is now at Louisiana Monroe.

LB Aakil Washington – South Alabama

In 2020 as a freshman, Washington played in 9 games and finished the season with 6 tackles and four QB hurries. In 2021 and 2022, Washington played in all 26 games, as he totaled 73 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 6 sacks. In 2023, he played in four games with 4 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He has transferred to South Alabama where he will compete in the Sun Belt.

QB Johnathan Bennett – The Citadel

In 2022, Bennett played in 12 games while making seven starts. He helped lead the Flames to wins over BYU and Arkansas in consecutive weeks. He completed 131 of 224 passing attempts for 1,534 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has transferred back to his home state where he will finish his collegiate career at the Citadel.

DT Tysheik Galloway – West Georgia

Galloway was a reserve interior defensive lineman for the Flames this season. He played in 8 games with 4 tackles and 1 sack after joining Liberty from Coffeyville Community College. He has transferred to West Georgia, a program transitioning from Division II to the FCS.

DE Amari Williams – Lamar

Williams transferred to Liberty a year ago from Fullerton College. He played in one game for the Flames. He has now transferred to FCS Lamar.

WR Errol Rogers, Jr. – Southeast Louisiana

Rogers entered the portal in December, didn’t find a new home so he worked out with the Flames in the spring. Now, he has committed to FCS Southeastern Louisiana. Rogers transferred to Liberty from Louisiana prior to the 2023 season.  He played in 6 games this past year, recording 1 catch for 36 yards.

LS Austin Turner – Austin Peay

Walk-on long snapper Austin Turner has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal after serving as the Flames’ long snapper in 2023. Since entering the portal, he has committed to FCS Austin Peay.

 LB Jordan Norwood – Incarnate Word

A redshirt-freshman, Norwood did not receive any playing time during the 2023 season. He has landed at FCS Incarnate Word.

LB Maurice Freeman – undecided

A transfer from Indiana, Freeman bounce back and forth between safety and linebacker during his time with the Flames. He was unable to crack into the rotation and get consistent playing time while at Liberty.

DL Jackson Shirer – undecided

Shirer has been a reserve defensive lineman for the Flames, having not been able to carve out a role that included playing time during his career.

LB Olan Robinson – undecided

Robinson was a true freshman in 2023, redshirting and not recording any stats.
