Liberty football’s average home attendance was 20,954 in 2022, that’s the highest average attendance number in school history.
This also continues a trend of increased average attendance since joining the FBS ranks. In 2018, Liberty averaged 16,282 fans each game. That number rose to 18,272 in 2019. Of course, the numbers were down in 2020 due to COVID restrictions, and in 2021 it was 17,608.
The Flames’ 2022 attendance numbers places Liberty in the 92nd spot in average attendance in the FBS. That is up from 2021 when the Flames finished 97th nationally.
Here are some schools that recently made the switch from FCS to FBS like the Flames and their average attendance this season:

- BYU 59,674
- Army 26,647
- UConn 22,095
- New Mexico State 14,993
- UMass 10,800
Here is how Liberty ranks in the state of Virginia:
- Virginia Tech 64,357
- Virginia 40,681
- James Madison 22,966

Here is how the new Conference USA members looked this year:
- UTEP 19,134
- Jacksonville State 7,439
- Western Kentucky 15,440
- Louisiana Tech 15,082
- Middle Tennessee 14,364
- Sam Houston State 11,454
- FIU 14,888
- Kennesaw State 5,626
Would certainly improve if they would consider letting full grown adults enjoy alcoholic beverages at tailgates and in the stadium. Kind of a ridiculous restriction.
Just a note, this Jacksonville State number is incorrect by a lot. They had five home games, and their average was 15,576. If you take away the first game, which was a neutral site game and only include the 4 real home games, their average was 18,161.
