When we think of legendary winning streaks, names like the Oakland A’s in 2002, the Lakers in the ’70s, the 2007 Patriots, and the ’72 Dolphins come to mind. But while victories grab the headlines, losing streaks rarely get their due. Even rarer is a losing streak that transcends sports, venues, and seasons.
Yet here I am, staring at a pattern so consistent it forces me to entertain a grim possibility: I might just be the common denominator in this symphony of defeat.
Let’s examine the evidence, here are the last 7 Liberty sporting events I have attended in person:
- Liberty vs. Kennesaw State, ASUN Championship Women’s Volleyball, March 24, 2021: 0-3 Loss
- Liberty vs. Kennesaw State, Basketball, February 16, 2023: 81-88 Loss
- Liberty vs. Kennesaw State, ASUN Championship Men’s Basketball, March 5, 2023: 66-67 Loss
- Liberty vs. Kennesaw State, Baseball, April 15, 2023: 3-5 Loss
- Liberty vs. Alabama, Men’s Basketball, December 30, 2023: 56-101 Loss
- Liberty vs. Oregon, Fiesta Bowl, January 1, 2024: 6-45 Loss
- Liberty vs. Kennesaw State, Football, October 23, 2024: Historic Loss
Notice anything? Yeah, neither did I—no glaring trend at all. Certainly nothing a data analyst would highlight as the obvious problem for all but two of these games.
Conclusion: for the good of my beloved alma mater, I’m officially benching myself from attendance indefinitely.
Unrelated, the Vikings are 0-2 in the last five days.
